Famous Canadian Arts Patron Dies
The other day I posted an article on the SOCIÉTÉ ANONYME, and their collective, artist-driven approach to patronage in the arts. Though I admire this appraoch greatly, the life of Ken Thomson, a phenomenal contributor to the arts in Canada, has exemplified all of the benefits of the top-down approach. Upon his passing, his collection of over two thousand works, including a $117 million Paul Reubens painting, will now go to the Art Gallery of Ontario, making it, along with its new face lift, a truly world-class institution.
