Art's Alien Architecture
The first time I visited Simon Fraser University, I felt like I had landed in some futuristic madhouse. Rules of inside and out, past and present, and culture versus nature had all been thrown somehow askew, and upon some investigation I learned about the guy responsible for the design, Arthur Erickson. Apparently I'm not the only one so inspired by his edifices, as they have appeared in a variety of futurustic film and television settings, as well as certain key political and promotional contexts. This recent CBC.ca photo essay and its accompanying commentary shed light on the wide variety of work that Erickson has done over the years.
