Zee for Yourself
Pearl Luke -- the Award-winning writer whose second novel Madam Zee debuted in April -- speaks in this CBC.ca article about what it's like trying to fictionally flesh out a historical "stick figure." Writing Madam Zee, known to most B.C. historians only in her capacity as wife to West Coast cult leader Brother XII, sounds like it required some unconventional methods: "Luke found herself talking to psychics, studying the tenets of Theosophy, reading the writings of Brother XII and his disciples, and even tracking down the sorts of plants that grow in an English meadow." You can read an excerpt from Luke's novel here.
