Coffee Offsets Booze Damage
In what is sureley the best news ever to meet grad students' eyes, a new study (reg. req.) is claiming that the regular consumption of coffee can reduce the risk of booze-induced liver damage (cirrhosis): "In a study of more than 125,000 people, one cup of coffee per day cut the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis by 20 per cent. Four cups per day reduced the risk by 80 per cent. The coffee effect held true for women and men of various ethnic backgrounds." Coffee? Alcohol? Equality? Tap, tap, tap, tap. That sound? Those are my caffeinated happy feet, dancing their way to the liquor store.
