Mein Sign!
"This is what can happen when contemporary art runs up against a no-nonsense guy trying to make a living." That sounds suspiciously familiar -- humanities meet grumpy businessmen? Something like that. Here's a Globe story about a Vancouver artist who collected some guy's eye pollution for three years, only to have him come grumbling back for it. The artist, Christian Kliegel, was informed by the police that many of the signs composing his intallation Production Postings were the rightful property of David "Dickhole" Grandy, and that Mr. Dickhole doesn't like fancy smancy art made out of his nine dollar make-your-eyes-bleed signs.
If he's so concerned with finances, I think the film industry should boycott Mr. no-nonsense Dickhole and see if he then appreciates the statement that can be made by contemporary art. The whole purpose if the installation is to draw attention to the intersection of commerce and art, and in that regard, it has already succeeded admirably.
