Grammatical Monstrosities
Here's an article from ZDnet outlining some common grammatical goof ups. It's easy to lament the decay of English into Netspeak -- oh the humanities! -- but I wonder if this trend isn't actually just the evolution of language. The term "Netspeak" does sound suspiciously close to "newspeak" from Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four, which is a language developed to make it impossible to think certain ways. Is the corrosion of grammar and lexicon an unconscious business strategy to weed out the free-thinking mind, or is efficiency and progress to be valued at all costs?
